Does a deposit limit apply across all UK gambling sites?

No. RTS 12 requires a limit at account level with one operator, not across the market. What the Commission's page says, and what reaches across operators.

No. A UK deposit limit is set with one operator and, as a minimum, applies to your whole account with that operator. The Gambling Commission’s RTS 12 page requires limits “at the account level” and says nothing about a limit spanning other licensees. Self-exclusion through GAMSTOP does reach across online operators, but it blocks accounts rather than capping them.

This is an evergreen question, and the answer rests on rules in force as of this writing. This desk read the Commission’s RTS 12 page on financial limits on 23 September 2026. It shows “Last updated: 31 October 2025”.

Does a deposit limit apply across all gambling sites in the UK?

RTS requirement 12B puts it in one line: “As a minimum, limits must be applied at the account level.” An account is held with a licensee. Nothing in the text read on that page extends a limit set with one licensee to any other. So a £50 weekly limit set with one bookmaker leaves an account with a second bookmaker exactly as it was. Anyone holding several accounts sets a limit in each.

The claim is scoped to the RTS 12 page. This desk read no operator’s terms this run, and says nothing about how any particular group handles limits across its own brands.

Can a limit be narrower than the account?

Yes. Implementation guidance 12B says that, in addition to account-level limits, limits “could be implemented across individual products or channels”. Where an operator offers that, it should make clear whether a given limit applies at account or product/channel level. The guidance’s own example: a limit set on a specific game should not mislead a customer into assuming it covers other products.

The same page adds that where daily and weekly limits are both set, the lowest applies: a £10 daily and £100 weekly pair allows at most £10 a day and £70 a week. Reductions take effect immediately unless systems failure prevents it. Increases are another matter, held back by at least 24 hours.

Only the last three rows cross operator lines, and none of them is a spending limit.

What does reach across online operators?

Self-exclusion. The Commission’s consultation response of 17 October 2023 records its decision to extend Social Responsibility Code Provision 3.5.5, on remote multi-operator self-exclusion, so that the requirement to participate in GAMSTOP covers all gambling businesses that make and accept bets by telephone and email, in force from 1 April 2024.

GAMSTOP’s about page, read the same day, says operators check with it when anyone tries to use an online gambling account, and that it is used by over half a million people in the UK, by its own account. This site has reviewed the scheme as infrastructure. What matters here is the trade-off. A limit keeps one account open and capped; GAMSTOP closes the door everywhere it applies.

The rest of this cluster covers whether an operator must ask you to set a limit and the gross and net definitions.

Questions searchers ask

Is a deposit limit per account or per site?

Per account, as a minimum. RTS requirement 12B says limits must be applied at the account level, and the account is held with one licensee. Implementation guidance 12B lets an operator offer narrower limits on individual products or channels as well, provided it makes clear to the customer which level each limit applies at.

Does a deposit limit on one game apply to other games?

Not necessarily. Where an operator lets you set a limit on a specific game, implementation guidance 12B says you should not be misled into assuming it automatically applies to other products. A game-level limit is narrower than an account-level one, and the operator should make clear which of the two you have set.

Can I set one deposit limit for all gambling sites in the UK?

The Commission’s RTS 12 page describes no such facility: its limits are set with a licensee at account level or narrower. The tool that reaches across operators is self-exclusion. Gamstop Online, per its own page, blocks you from signing up for or using online accounts with gambling companies licensed in Great Britain. It is a block, not a spending cap.

What is the difference between a deposit limit and self-exclusion?

A deposit limit caps how much you can put into one account over a period and leaves the account open. Self-exclusion stops you gambling with the operators it covers. Through GAMSTOP it applies across participating licensees at once, which a limit set with one operator does not. The two can be used together, and neither replaces the other.
